San Francisco A gold nugget weighing more than 9 kilogrammes fetched 750,000 dollars in an auction on Wednesday, Texas-based Heritage Auctions said. The "Alaska Centennial Gold Nugget,” so named as it was found on the 100th anniversary of the Klondike Gold Rush, is the largest gold nugget ever found in the state of Alaska, according to the auction house. It was discovered in 1998 near the town of Ruby, in Western Alaska, along Swift Creek by Barry Clay. It measures 17x14.5x11 centimetres and weighs 9.13 kilogrammes. Initially, nothing was known about the buyer. (dpa)
