A drive through Doha today will dispel any lingering doubts about Qatar’s ability to host the World Cup. From roads to parks to streets and buildings, the transformation the city has seen is unmistakable. Captivating artworks have sprung up in some of the most unexpected places, highways have grown bigger and better and parks have become more lush and verdant, all of which have elevated the aesthetic appeal of the city.
Hamad Al Rashed, a property owner, told Qatar Tribune, “Qatar has sought to provide an inspiring model for future generations, and teach young people in the country and the Arab world the possibility of achieving what may seem impossible, especially after many doubted Qatar’s ability to host a tournament of this magnitude. But now everyone is witnessing the ability to achieve it on the ground.
“I was one of those people who decorated their buildings with photos of international football stars, especially with the countdown to the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, all roads, facades, and alleys in Qatar schools, universities, private and public property, squares and public streets are filled with posters bearing the logo of the World Cup, images of the stars of Al-Annabi, as well as the flags of the qualifying countries for the World Cup.” Qatar has rolled out several initiatives to welcome World Cup visitors and introduce to them its heritage, customs and traditions and the typical Qatari generosity.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ashghal, Qatar Museums, the Municipality Ministry and other ministries and government bodies have recently organized and founded initiatives that changed the face of the city of Doha.
A few days ago, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) announced its promotional campaign to support the Qatari national team, as well as special activities and events for fans during the World Cup, in cooperation with its main partners and supporters of the national team from various companies and institutions.
Qatari artist Abdul Hamid Siddiqi said, “Qatar’s success at the 2022 World Cup requires everyone’s cooperation — citizens, residents and everyone in the country should be part of this success.”
Qatar has intensified its preparations in all respects, and the features of the World Cup have appeared in all areas and streets of Doha.
Journalist Omar Mekki opined: “With 49 days to go for the World Cup, we really feel distinctive efforts are being made to make the event a success.”
Qatar’s message was also clear to all visitors to the region confirming its ability to receive and welcome all arrivals to the State, and be a typical model of a first Arab country to hold and host this worldwide event, which brings millions in one place for the love of football and their teams.
