Students and staff of the MES Indian School’s (MESIS) Abu Hamour branch celebrated Qatar National Day with zeal and ardour.
A week was dedicated to various competitions held among the students to kick-start the festivities. A grand event was held in the multipurpose hall of the school, comprising cultural performances, sports events and expo stalls that featured traditional Qatari food, Qatari attire, models of historical monuments and a Baladna stall, highlighting the Qatari spirit. The event was organised under the guidance of Sharmida, Qatar History coordinator.
All students of the school joined the celebrations virtually from their respective classes.
Those who attended the event included the school’s Governing Board members, Khaleel AP, president officiating as the chief guest. Rafeeq, general secretary of the Board and Mohammed Ali, academic director, IES Institutions, Chittilappally, Kerala, were the special guests. MC Mohammad, director of Cultural Activities and Hazmal Ismail, general secretary, were also present.
The event was compered by Head Girl Falaqul Thahira. Neja Mehdin recited the ‘Surah Fatiha’ beautifully. The welcome address was delivered by Rashmi Jain, school mentor.
Khaleel AP delivered the presidential address, appreciating and acknowledging the efforts of the students and staff.
Principal Dr Mohammed Haneef shared an inspirational message of day, encouraging the fire of Qatari Spirit in the hearts of students. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ashokan K, academic supervisor. It was followed by the inauguration of the Qatari Culture Exhibition stalls by Khaleel AP and the other dignitaries.
This was followed by the cultural programmes showcasing the Qatari Spirit in the students of the MESIS. The programme included group dances, solo performances, Qatari traditional song, fancy dress performance of students dressed in traditional Qatari attire and a football skill demo dance. Swathy trained the students for the Qatari traditional dance performance.
