With new Omicron variant spreading across the globe, health experts have called on people to take the COVID-19 vaccine doses to remain protected against the virus. And the people who have received the booster shots have now joined the health experts in encouraging the public to take the jab as soon as possible.
A number of people who received the COVID-19 booster doses have said that they now feel safe as recent studies have showed that the booster shots help in preventing severe infections from the Omicron variant. They say that compared to the first two doses, the side effects of the booster shot are negligible and that the process to get the dose is seamless.
Johnson Mwangi, who recently received the booster shot, said he decided to take the booster dose as he was planning to travel.
“I believe that when I get the booster vaccine, I will be more protected from COVID-19 especially the new variants. My second dose of the vaccine was administered in April while the first one was in March which is more than six months ago,” Mwangi said.
The 49-year-old said he didn’t experience any unusual side effects associated with the vaccine. “I felt pain on the arm which was expected coming from the site of the injection.”
He said it was also easy to get an appointment for the booster shot. “I wanted to book online but I decided to go in-person to my health centre. I was given a slot in five days’ time but the waiting time was reduced to two days since I was traveling,” he added.
For her part, 33-year old Alina Amit said the side effects from the booster dose were minimal. “This time I didn’t have any side effects, only a little pain on the site of the injection for a few hours after I received the vaccine. This is so different compared to my first and second doses where I had fever. These two doses were very painful. This time I didn’t get any side effects.”
Alina said she even went to work the day following the booster shot.
Alina explained that the process of getting the booster shot was hassle-free.
“It was very easy because I got an appointment and then went to Gharafa Health Center where I received the shot. This time it was very easy compared to the first two doses where we waited for so long in a queue to get the vaccine.”
Francisca Kerubo, 33, who recently received the booster shot, said she was happy to take the dose. “I only had a little pain on my arm but nothing serious. I got a fever during my first two doses but for this one, I didn’t.”
She said that she was contacted by the Primary Health Care Corporation officials telling her that she could take the third dose. “They also sent me a message and then I went and took the shot. I got the shot from Mesaimeer Health Center. The process to get the vaccine was good.”Booster dose recipients urge the public to get the jab to stay protected
