Leaders from various Ugandan community groups recently met to discuss the welfare of their compatriots living in Qatar.
Led by Uganda Peninsula Community Qatar Chairman Benson Akampumuza, the leaders met with Rukia Nakadama Isanga at the Embassy of Uganda where they discussed topics such as minimum wage and passport renewal and visa transfer facility, among other issues. Second Secretary at the Embassy Mike Wandela presided over the meeting. Also present were officials from the Ugandan Community in Qatar (UGACOQ).
The meeting focused on the wellbeing of Ugandans in Qatar, the challenges they are facing, tourism opportunities, and their collective continued efforts to build strong ties between Uganda and Qatar.
Akampumuza said, “The Ugandans in Qatar should act as ambassadors in their respective workplaces and companies and engage themselves in community activities like Cranes Doha Football, Twegate Dance Group, walking football and be united and humble so that they can have a great image that will strengthen the relationship and bridge between Qatar and Ugandans, hence tourism industry boosting and Agricultural production and investment.
“I would like to call upon everyone to support our activities so that we create a home away from home as we build talents and community engagement through your culture and traditions.”
Akampumuza appreciated the embassy and the government of Uganda for their continued support and guidance.
“Thanks to the entire Ugandans in Qatar for being great ambassadors in their respective companies that have paved the way for better opportunities for our brothers and sisters back home,” he said.
