Over 7,000 visitors flocked to the Aspire Zone Foundation park for the third edition of the Aspire International Kite Festival, on Thursday.
Families from Qatar’s communities revelled in a fun-filled atmosphere to learn about the latest and greatest trends in kite making and flying.
The blue skies above Aspire were filled with a hundreds of vivid kite designs that were inspired by creatures from the desert and the sea.
Kites reflecting colourful whales, fish, octopuses, giraffes were joined by a gigantic dragon and a series of horses.
A member of the organising committee of the Aspire International Kite Festival, Miss Tahani Khalifa al Suwaidi, said, “The fact that thousands of visitors were scattered across Aspire park during the very first day of the festival exceeded our expectations. Guests were treated to exclusive kites designed by international teams. I would like to invite people from all walks of life to come and see activities on offer at the Festival.”
This year’s edition of the festival saw kites portraying contemporary designs from all over the world. From the Eastern participants, India’s team was seen flying their handmade bright kites that depicted the rich heritage of India.
On the other side of the field, the French kite professionals flew kites displaying French modern and contemporary art. The Italian team was also present with their spectacular kites at the very centre of the field.
The Kuwaiti team’s impressive presence was strongly felt, with kites flown by the team comprising of Abdelrahman al Faresi, Mohammed al Farasi, Mubarak Marzooq, Mohammed al Mosowy, and Saoud al Ghareeb.
Abdelrahman al Faresi, said, “This is our first time to fly our kites on such a large field like this one. We’ve seen something similar in the UK but on a smaller scale. I salute our neighbouring country for organising this event.”
Qatar’s former goalkeeper, Ahmed Khaleel, said, “At Aspire, we repeatedly see excellence. Today’s turnout of visitors was astonishing, and we are proud to see such events taking place in Qatar every year.”
Renowned reporter Hanan al Emadi, said, “This is the third time I have attend this spectacular Festival and I can easily distinguish the vast development that has happened to the Festival for us to continue to see a better edition each year.”
This year's festival is sponsored by The Cultural Village Foundation- Katara, Ooredoo, Qatar Airways, Dolphin Energy, Kidzania and Al-Salam group.
