The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) has released the quarterly Import Unit Value Index (IMVUI) for the fourth Quarter of 2021 based on 2013.
The IMVUI of the fourth quarter reached 102.81 points, showing an increase of 1.05 percent from the previous quarter (Q3-2021) and a decrease of 0.03 percent from that in the same quarter in the previous year (Q4-2020). IMUVI contains of ten main groups classified based on Standard International Trade Classification.
The quarter-on-quarter rise in IMUVI is driven by surges in five main groups — mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials by 4.02 percent, machinery and transport equipment by 2.18 percent, beverages and tobacco by 1.93 percent, miscellaneous manufactured articles by 1.31 percent and manufactured goods classified chiefly by material by 0.35 percent. Declines were recorded in crude materials, inedible, except fuels by 2.51 percent, food and live animals by 0.81 percent and chemicals and related products by 0.52 percent.
No change is noticed in animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes and commodities and transactions not classified elsewhere in SITC.
Meanwhile, PSA attributed the year-on-year decline to decreases in seven groups — commodities and transactions not classified elsewhere in SITC by 3.83 percent, food and live animals by 3.73 percent, manufactured goods classified chiefly by material by 3.34 percent, crude materials, inedible, except fuels by 2.12 percent, chemicals and related products NEC by 1.24 percent, animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes by 1 percent and miscellaneous manufactured articles by 0.42 percent. Increases were recorded in three groups — machinery and transport equipment by 2.41 percent, mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials by 2.22 percent and beverages and tobacco by 0.3 percent.
