Lulu Hypermarket, a leading retailer, has donated QR150,000 to Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) through its ‘Shop and Donate’ campaign to support the ongoing programmes and plans of the QCS.
The fund was handed over to QCS at a ceremony organised at Lulu Group’s Regional Headquarters on D-Ring Road.
Lulu Hypermarket has been supporting QCS for raising awareness on cancer and promoting a culture of early detection, as part of its social responsibility. The ‘Shop and Donate’ campaign was launched in Lulu outlets in last October, whereby they allocated part of its sales proceeds of some products for the charity activities. Every year, Lulu Group has been repeating this exercise for supporting QCS activities - whether it be spreading awareness to the general public or supporting the treatment of cancer patients.
Mona Ashknani, general manager of QCS, thanked the officials of Lulu Hypermarket Qatar for their continuous support to the cause of charity, stressing that they always do their best to support the awareness efforts led by QCS in its ongoing fight against cancer that needs permanent cooperation among all institutions and authorities.
She expressed happiness on this cooperation, which supports the society’s vision to become the community partnership platform for making Qatar a leader in cancer prevention and control by working with partners to educate the community and support, empower and advocate for individuals living with cancer, and to engage in professional development and scientific research in the field of cancer. Ashknani hoped that this cooperation would continue for the benefit of the nation at large, calling on all state institutions to be partners with the charity in achieving its goals in the local community, especially with the community’s need to spread awareness of cancer and change stereotypes around it.
Shaijan MO, regional director of Lulu Group, said: “Lulu Group always looks forward to becoming a key partner in all social responsibility programmes that benefit everyone residing in Qatar, especially its cooperation with Qatar Cancer Society as a responsible retailer of the region we strongly believe that we have a significant role to play in society in the health sector as well as in charitable and humanitarian work.”
He affirmed that Lulu Hypermarket would continue to support Qatar Cancer Society in future and would make best efforts to enable QCS achieve its mission and goals.
