US President Joe Biden has said his government is imposing “strong” sanctions targeting Russia’s financial system as well as its technology sector via export controls. Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Biden immediately announced the imposition of sanctions on Russia’s second largest bank, VTB Bank. VTB Bank and other Russian credit institutions would thus be excluded from the US financial market and transactions in US dollars, Biden said. (DPA)
