Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in Oman Assila bint Salem bin Suleiman Al Samsamiah has described as successful her visit to Qatar that sought to strengthen integration and partnership between Oman and Qatar in the trade and investments.
In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), she said one of the major focus of her visit was to explore ways of integration between the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Vision of Oman 2040.
This was reflected in her meetings with the Qatar Investment Authority and representatives of the Qatari private sector.
Samsamiah pointed out Oman’s desire to expand the areas of partnership with the Qatar, in line with the Sultanate’s 2040 vision, which will focus on the logistical sector, tourism, manufacturing industries and renewable energy, in addition to exploiting the natural resources in the country that may complement the economic sectors in Qatar.
She explained that there are future projects that will be studied between the two sides to work on embodying them in reality, whether in Qatar or in Oman, in order to achieve the recommendations of the leaderships of the two countries and the desire to achieve integration in various fields.
On the possibility of Muscat hosting a Qatari-Omani business forum, Samsamiah said such an event would bring the private sectors of the two sides together and help Qatari businessmen who are keen to explore the investment opportunities in Oman.
The start will be through the formation of a joint team that will study the idea of the next forum and its timing, so that its details will be revealed in the coming period, she said.
Samsamiah also affirmed her country’s determination to overcome all obstacles and provide investment incentives to Qatari businessmen in the fields of trade, tourism, banking, industry and other sectors in which they are looking to invest, pointing out that she also sensed the desire of Qatari businesswomen to establish many joint projects with Omani businesswomen by finding channels of linkage between the two parties, noting the endeavour to expand cooperation to include various economic sectors, whether with businessmen or businesswomen.
The volume of intra-regional trade between Qatar and Oman amounted to about QR 4.5 billion in 2021, and the Sultanate of Oman topped the trade partners of the Qatari private sector in terms of exports during the same year.
About 200 Omani companies operate in the Qatari market with 100 percent Omani capital, in addition to about 200 other companies in partnership with Qatari companies operating in various sectors such as trade, contracting, services, hospitality, energy, maintenance, and others.
