Minister of Social Development and Family HE Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad has affirmed that Qatar has expanded the options for Qatari women’s participation in various spheres of development and society and paid special attention to the issues facing them. Qatar has promoted equal opportunity for women within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) and associated development strategies, she said.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD), Al Misnad said Qatar’s development indicators have reached high global levels. The country’s development is characterised by inclusiveness, balance, fairness, and justice, as its goal is human achievement. She said the responsibility to achieve the goals also calls for a joint effort by women and men, which is confirmed by QNV 2030 and the associated development plans and strategies.
QNV 2030 expanded the options for women’s participation in various fields of development, and paid adequate attention to issues of empowerment, capacity-building and the provision of decent work, with options that allow women to harmonize their roles in the family and public life, as well as strengthening the social protection system, she added.
She stressed that in the context of strengthening QNV 2030 with its various pillars, the country’s wise leadership was keen to establish the Ministry of Social Development and Family to work on promoting equal opportunities and advancing the social field within the second pillar of the ‘social development,’ and setting the relevant programmes, plans, and policies, which promotes policies related to women’s empowerment and enhances their role in society.
She concluded by saying that Qatari women are men’s partners in the renaissance that the country is witnessing in various fields, and all efforts are being made for its stability, progress, and prosperity. We live in a society that acknowledges the leading role of women and trusts in their capabilities, calling every woman to work and achieve more, and to take advantage of the available opportunities and the enormous potential provided by the State to empower women and advance their role.
Today, all countries of the world celebrate IWD, which falls on March 8 each year, in appreciation and support for women’s efforts and their role in various public spheres and to support them wherever they are.
This year’s celebration comes under the theme ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,’ in recognition of the contributions of women and girls around the world in leading the adaptation, mitigation, and response to climate change to build a more sustainable future for all.
