Activity in Qatar’s key villa construction continued to remain strong in February as well. Almost 74 percent of the permits issued in February for new residential buildings are for villa construction, suggesting a solid construction growth outlook in the residential building sector.
According to the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), municipalities in Qatar issued 697 building permits in February. Nearly 53 percent (366) of them are for new buildings, including both residential and non-residential structures. Almost 46 percent (323) of them are for extensions and the remaining one percent (eight permits) are for fencing purposes.
Of the residential permits, those for “dwellings of housing loans permits” accounted for 18 percent (45 permits) and apartments accounted for 7 percent (17 permits). As many as 183 permits (74 percent) were issued for villa construction.
The PSA report also shows pronounced activity in the construction of commercial buildings. Of the permits issued for building non-residential structures in February, 76 percent (91 permits) were for commercial buildings. It is followed by mosques with 11 percent (13 permits) and permits for state and industrial buildings such as workshops and factories with six percent (seven permits).
In February, Al Wakra municipality issued the highest number of building permits — 165 permits or 24 percent of the total. It is followed by Al Da’ayen with 151 permits or 22 percent, Al Rayyan with 146 permits or 21 percent, Doha with 119 permits or 17 percent, Umm Slal with 50 permits or seven percent, Al Khor with 33 permits or five percent, Al Shahaniya with 17 permits or two percent and Al Shammal with 16 permits or two percent.
The total number of building permits issued in February saw a eight percent decrease from that in January 2022.
February also saw the execution of 347 building permits — 286 new buildings and 61 additions. Of the new buildings, 210 are for residential units and 76 for non-residential facilities.
By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, PSA finds that villas’ top the list, accounting for 65 percent (136 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 27 percent (57 permits) and apartments buildings by six percent (12 permits).
On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 68 percent (52 permits), followed by industrial buildings with 16 percent (12 permits) and governmental buildings with nine percent (seven certificates).
The total number of building completion certificates issued in February saw an eight-percent increase from that in January.
