The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) revealed all organizational and technical measures that been taken ahead of the inaugural edition of Its Ultimate Race which will be held on March 19 at the Cultural Village Katara.
At the press conference held on Sunday to brief the media on the event, Sheikh Suhaim bin Mohamed Al Thani, Director of the QOC Ultimate Race 2022 said, "The QOC will organize this community event to raise awareness about the importance of sport and to take community sport to new grounds.”
"The 2022 Ultimate Race will also help the national sports federation to discover and attract new talents to the Qatari national teams” he added.
Sheikh Suhaim also stressed that the organizing committee offers more than QR 350.000 in prize money for winners of different categories.
For his part, Sheikh Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Deputy Director of the event, lauded the huge turnout of athletes to participate in QOC Ultimate Race 2022 as 175 athletes have so far confirmed their participation in the event. He also confirmed that the registration will remain open through the QOC official website and social media platforms.
Deputy Director of the event stressed that the athletes have to be physical fit for the race and have to commit to the preventive measures announced by the state of Qatar to curb the spread of Covid-19.
On other hand, Mohammed Hamad Al Meanis, Head of Marketing and Communication Committee thanked Katara for their cooperation with the QOC and the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation in organizing this event and for their contribution to organizing a huge number of international sports events.
He also hailed the support of the sponsors of this event including Vodafone Qatar and QQQ Media as well as the official suppliers A&H Sports and Elan Print.
For his part, Thani Khalifa Al Zaraa, Secretary-General of the Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, said that the open sprint distance will begin with a 750m swim to be followed by 20km bike then 5km run.
He added that Youth Duathlon (12-15 Years) will be divided into 1km Run, 6.5km Bike and 3km Run while Youth Duathlon (7-11 Years) will include 1km Run, 2.6km Bike and 1km Run.
