Telangana Jagruthi Qatar, an Indian sociocultural organisation in Qatar, celebrated International Women’s Day at the ICC Ashoka Hall.Suman Sonkar, head of Chancellery at the Indian Embassy Qatar, was the chief guest while Padma Karri, first secretary, Indian Embassy Qatar, was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee and Indian Sports Centre President Dr. Mohan Thomas; Indian Cultural Centre President PN Baburaj; General Secretary Krishna Kumar Bandhakavi; and KS Prasad Rao, chairman of ICC advisory council, were the distinguished guests. Those present on the occasion included Telugu Kala Samithi President Tataji Vusirikala, Andhra Kala Vedika President Venkappa Bhagavatula and Telangana Gulf Samithi President Shanker Goud.Nandini Abbagouni, president of Telangana Jagruthi Qatar, said the event was held with the theme ‘Women in Leadership for an inclusive world’.
Women community leaders Kuldeep Kaur Bahl, treasurer ICBF, Rajani Murthy Murthy, head of medical assistance and camps, ICC Advisory Council members Jayati B Maitra, Sonal Sharma, Zakia Bilgrami Farookhi, and Dr Harsha Bhatia were feted on the occasion. Vidya Menon, Vani and Radha were also felicitated as a mark of respect for their spouses’ achievements.
The event included a beauty contest. ‘Sampradaa extraordiNAREE in SAREE’ and ‘Butta Bomma’ were held to promote traditional Indian garments. A large number of women participated in the event which was adjudged by women and child development evangelist Suma Mahesh Gowda and fashion entrepreneur Sunaina Kanumarlapudi.
An art competition and inspiring cultural performances were also presented on the occasion depicting the importance of women’s empowerment.
