Kenyan Embassy in Doha has announced the passing away of the Kenyan Ambassador to Qatar HE Paddy C Ahenda on Monday at 2:53am.
The envoy, who has served as the ambassador of Kenya to Qatar since February 2019, suddenly took ill on Thursday, March 31 and died at the Hamad Medical Corporation’s Trauma and Emergency Center Intensive Care Unit where he was admitted.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Ambassador Washington A. Oloo, charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Kenya in Qatar, said: “We are saddened by his demise and the Kenyan government is making plans to repatriate the body for interment.”
He said that further details will be announced later and the condolence book is open at the embassy and the residence.
A statement released by the Kenyan Embassy in Doha said, “The embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Doha presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Department of Protocol, all diplomatic missions and offices of the International Organisations accredited to Qatar and has the honour to inform with deep sorrow and sadness of passing away of HE Ambassador C. O. Ahenda, ambassador extraordinary plenipotentiary of Kenya to Qatar. The late ambassador passed away on Monday, 4th April, 2022, at 3am at the Hamad Medical Corporation.”
The statement added, “A book of condolence to commemorate the life of HE Ambassador Paddy Ahenda will be opened at the Embassy of Kenya and at the official residence at Al Dafna, Street 871, Zone 68, Building 42 starting from Tuesday 5th April, 2022 to Thursday, 7th April 2022 from 10am to 2pm. The book is open at his residence from 9am to 6pm.
State House Kenya said Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of the late ambassador who passed away while receiving treatment in hospital.
In his message of comfort and encouragement, President Kenyatta eulogised the envoy as a dedicated and committed diplomat who was keen on deepening Kenya’s relations with Qatar and the Arab world.
“A loyal and patriotic Kenyan, Amb Ahenda will be remembered for his servant leadership during his diplomatic service and before as the MP for Kasipul Kabondo where he left a strong legacy of development,” he said.
