Pakistan Arts Society-Qatar (PAS-Q), in collaboration with Pak Shamaa School, recently organised a professional training session titled ‘Effective Communication Skills’ for school faculty and management staff.
Aisha Khan, the guest speaker on the occasion, has been living in the Gulf since 2013. She was born and brought up in Rawalpindi and moved to the US with her family at the age of 16. After finishing high school, she obtained a bachelor’s in Psychology and French from State University of West Georgia in 1994. She got a masters in Psychology/Counseling from the University of Mary-Hardin-Baylor in 1996. After her first masters, she got married and stayed home to raise her family. She went back to school in 2007 and received her second masters in Social Work from the University of Missouri in 2011. After moving to Doha in 2017, she wanted to work but didn’t find a suitable opportunity. She is fluent in English and Urdu and speaks basic French and Arabic.
PSS faculty member Ammara Rafique conducted an interview with the guest speaker in the first part of the event where Aisha Khan discussed interesting and memorable incidents of her life.
Later, she had a very engaging and interactive session and shared her expert opinion on effective communication skills in the field of education. She spoke about interviewing and assessing prospective teachers, drafting and reviewing educational institutions’ policies, community outreach, students’ assessment, counseling for students to meet academic goals, counseling for older students in stress and students with special needs, and supporting and guiding teachers in dealing with specific situations in the classroom.
She noted that effective communication skills can deepen relations not only in one’s personal life but also in professional life. "In personal life, these skills can help us better understand people and situations. Effective communication skills can help us avoid conflicts. They help us in better decision making, quick problem solving, better response from all stakeholders, strong business relations and maintain consistency in the work flow. By improving communication skills, we can improve employee engagement, teamwork, decision making and interdepartmental communication in the workplace,” she said.
A question-answer session was held on the importance of communication skills.
Pak Shamaa School Principal Nabila Kaukab thanked the guest speaker for conducting the session and presented her with a souvenir. She praised the efforts of PAS officials for their continued collaboration and assistance in arranging such informative workshops for faculty members and students.
Earlier, PAS President Muhammad Abrar Hussain welcomed the guests and thanked the distinguished guest for sparing her valuable time for the betterment of community.
PAS General Secretary Adeel Akbar conducted the proceedings of the event.
