Cape TOWN: At least two people are dead amid a renewed outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Tuesday.
The first case was confirmed in Mbandaka, in the north-western province of Equateur, at the weekend. On Tuesday, the country’s health authorities reported the death of a 25-year-old woman, who had been in contact with at least 145 people, according to WHO information.
Ebola is transmitted through direct bodily contact. It causes high fever and internal bleeding. The outbreak was the 14th recorded in the large central African country of 90 million inhabitants since 1976.
Just five months ago, the WHO declared an Ebola outbreak in the eastern North Kivu Province ended. (dpa)
