President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani crowned Al Duhail as the champions of HH the Amir Cup for handball for the 2021-2022. They defeated Al Arabi in the final 33-27.
His Excellency awarded the trophy and the gold medals to Al Duhail, and the silver medals to Al Arabi.
The win is the third in Al Duhail’s history. The previous two titles came in the 2016-2017 and 2019-2020 seasons. The win also means Al Duhail completed the treble this season, winning both the league and cup titles before. Al Arabi, the Amir Cup defending champions, could not defend their title this time.
Al Sadd are the record holders for the competition, having won it eight times.
Ahmed Al Shaabi, President of the Qatar Handball Association, congratulated Al Duhail Club on winning the His Highness the Amir’s Handball Cup for the third time in its history.
“The final match was strong, full of passion and excitement, which reflects the strength of the competition between the two teams in order to win the Amir’s Cup, and Al Duhail succeeded in winning the championship,” Al Shabi said of the two teams’ performance.
“We congratulate Al-Duhail on winning the cup,” he continued, “which was not achieved in a vacuum, but is undoubtedly due to the efforts and good planning by those responsible for the game in the club, the continuous support of the board of directors, and the great giving to the players.”
The Federation’s President stated that Al Duhail’s victory in the Federation Cup, General League, and Amir’s Cup confirms that it was the best team this season, wishing better luck to the Al Arabi team, who despite the loss, played a good match, but was unsuccessful in winning and retaining the cup.
