Salem Al Maliki emerged as the boys under-19 champion in the The Qatar Asian Junior Squash Open Championship, hosted by the Qatar Tennis & Squash Federation in cooperation with its Asian counterpart and which concluded on Thursday.
The championship was held over five days with the participation of the best players from the continent.
Qatari Youssef Essam finished as the runners-up in the under-19 category. Al Malki beat compatriot Essam 11-5, 11-5, 11-3 in the final.
In the boys under-13 category, Iran’s Ali Kari was the winner while Qatar’s Talal Al Badr was the runners-up.
In the boys under-11 section, Iran’s Arashek Ahmadabadi won the title.
India’s Krishna Nishna won in the under-17 category while Pakistan’s Azan won the title for the boys category under-15.
"We congratulate the players winning the titles of this tournament, and we thank them for the level they showed during these competitions,” said Tariq Zainal, Secretary-General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation.
Zainal stressed that hosting this Asian championship comes within the framework of the federation’s strategy to support the level of Qatari players and to provide them with the best opportunities that help them achieve the best results.
