Al Emadi Hospital’s Endodontics Department has been providing the most advanced procedures in dental care and treatment. These procedures include regenerative endodontics, root canal, and tooth replacement, among many other services, at affordable prices and with the highest quality materials in the market.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Al Emadi Hospital’s Endodontics Specialist Dr Imran Khatib Zada said any patient with tooth pain leads to the Department of Endodontics. “Endodontics deals with the nerves of the tooth-pulp of the tooth.”
An endodontist carries out a root canal treatment procedure, which is the basic treatment when a tooth has any type of pain -- whether minor, major, or if it has an abscess.
According to him, besides endodontics at the department, oral surgery is done as well. “We do endodontic braces; we replace teeth; we put crowns for teeth as well as cleaning of the teeth.”
Dr Zada added that the department also deals with ‘Hollywood Smile’, which involves teeth whitening. “We put laminates on the teeth,” he said.
The department also performs root canal treatments for children. “We do the filling and cleaning. For children, we mostly do fillings and root canal treatment.”
For children too, they do fluoride application because they are more susceptible to dental caries, he said.
Root canal treatment is painful because it involves nerves. However, once the treatment is done, the pain should not come back, he explained, noting, “This needs proper cleaning, accessing and filling.”
Dr Zada, however, said that when the tooth is beyond repair, it’s only then that the tooth can be extracted.
According to him, toothaches mostly start at night because when one lies down, the blood pumped from the heart goes to the upper limbs and the blood pressure goes towards the teeth. “This is called the intrapulpal pressure which causes the pain. Therefore, if you have a nerve exposed to caries (decay), it will cause pain. If you get up, the pain is a little bit manageable.”
If one has caries, even if a minor, it’s better to see a dentist for management, advised Dr Zada. “Let it be restored or filled. Don’t wait for the pain.”
He said patients shouldn’t wait for pain to occur and they should visit the dentist regularly.
“If you see any black dot on the tooth or caries, just go to the dental clinic so that you that can you get it done without any pain.”
One of the developing procedures that are being carried out at the department is ‘Regenerative Endodontics’, which involves the use of biologically-based procedures designed to replace damaged tooth structures such as dentin, root structures and cells of the pulp-dentin complete.
Dr Zada brought this idea at the department when he joined Al Emadi Hospital in 2016. Before joining Al Emadi Hospital, he was working in India. “In India, we had devised a protocol where we would save up all the teeth.
We don’t extract the teeth.”
According to him, in order to do this, they came up with Regenerative Endodontics. “I have given over 150 lectures all over the world on Regenerative Endodontics,” he said.
According to him, with this procedure, they try to save the nerves of the teeth. “We try to protect the nerves by putting some materials on the nerves and then putting other two fillings on the nerves, thus restoring the tooth. We preserve the tooth for a longer time.”
He said this technology of preserving the teeth is very new worldwide and several countries have approached them for lectures.
Dr Zada and his team have given lectures on Regenerative Endodontics in countries such as South Africa, Switzerland, Lebanon, Indonesia, among others. “Recently I went to Turkey to give a lecture. We give lectures and we try to put our opinion across.”
He said they have done a few cases at the hospital and they were a success.
“This procedure has been used in India for a long time. My friends and I came up with the idea and people studied about it through conferences.”
Since he started doing this procedure, he has done between 60 and 70 cases and the success rate has been very high.
According to him, this treatment is better for younger patients, especially those in their teens.
He said they are planning to take this procedure far and beyond, though they are still waiting for its approval from Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners.
Dr Zada conducts around 10 procedures per day because they deal on appointments. “We need to do quality work. I take walk-ins only if it’s an emergency.”
According to him, their waiting time is really short whereby patients get an appointment in less than a week’s time.
He said they discuss among doctors to see the best treatment they can provide to their patients.
In addition, the world-class services that are offered here are affordable for the patients. “The amount and choice of material that we use here are fantastic. I have never seen such materials being used in my own country. The material is Japanese or European quality.”
With the high quality of materials being used, the rates are so low. “The instruments and materials are very expensive.”
Talking about the services being offered at Al Emadi, Dr Zada said, “The services are superb and this hospital is amazing. With genuine rates we give the best possible treatment procedures to our patients. The satisfaction rate is high and we are happy to give our best treatment plans and protocols.”
