Seven persons have been arrested in Qatar for possessing what authorities said were “four bags full of counterfeit currencies”.
They are also accused of possessing counterfeiting raw materials such as papers and ink, which the police believe were part of a broader scam.
The arrests were made by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s Department of Combating Economic and Electronic Crimes. Six of the seven accused are of Arab nationalities and one held a European passport, a statement from the Ministry of Interior said.
All of them have been referred to a competent authority for further action.
The Ministry of the Interior called on the public to watch out for scams operated counterfeit gangs and urged them to report any suspicious activity involving currencies to the police.
