Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will organise a concert, titled ‘Classic of the Golden Age’, featuring classics from the golden age of Arabic cinema, as well as music from Qatar, at Katara Cultural Village Opera House at 7.30 pm on June 9.
The event will see the participation of soloists May Farouq, Nasser Sahim, Amal Mohamed and Ahmed Anani, perform in an orchestral setting. The programme will include music from the greats such as Umm Kulthum, Sayed Darwish, Fairuz, Faraj Abdul Karim, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Ali Abdul Sattar and many more.
The performers include Nayer Nagui, conductor; Nasser Sahim, vocal; May Farouk, vocal; Amal Mohamed, vocal; Ahmed Anani, vocal; Qatar Concert Choir; Giovanni Pasini, Choirmaster; Tofeeq,Qanoon Ibrahim and Georges
Nayer Nagui, Conductor of the event, was born in Alexandria in 1970. He joined the Alexandria Conservatoire, and learned piano under Italian Prof. Herta Pappo. He furthered his musical studies in Cairo, where he obtained the advanced certificate of the Royal Schools of Music, London, in Piano and Theory of Music, in 1996. His vast repertoire ranges from Symphonic, Opera, Oratorios and Ballet conducing to Musicals, and Light Music.
Singer Mai Farouk possesses a unique and special voice that makes her one of the best singers of her generation. Mai was born in Cairo, Egypt, and began her artistic career as a member of the Salim Suhab choir at the Cairo Opera House at the young age of 8, which contributed greatly to the development of her talent as a singer.
Nasser Sahim Was born In 1979, and has established a musical presence in a wide range of endeavours. As a vocalist-composer he has recorded more than 30 single songs in the Gulf region as well as an album of a dozen songs, Nasser Sahim 2013.
