The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Sunday inaugurated the statue of friendship between Moldova and Qatar, in a celebration marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The inauguration was attended by Prime Minister of Moldova Natalia Gavrilita, Minister of State and President of the National Library HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Director-General of Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Ambassador of Moldova to Qatar HE Victor Tvircun, members of the official delegation accompanying the Moldovan prime minister, as well as a large number of ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions.
The statue of friendship in Katara is a bronze piece of art entitled ‘Together towards the Future’ in reference to the growth and prosperity of relations between the two countries.
An exhibition titled ‘Picture of the World in Stone and Metal’ was also opened in Building 47 Gallery 2. It showcases 28 pieces of art by seven artists from Moldova. The pieces varied in their shapes and ideas, and most of them were made of bronze, granite, steel and aluminum.
In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Moldovan prime minister praised the efforts made in organising these events.
She said, “It gives me great pleasure to visit Qatar to celebrate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Qatar, where I received a warm welcome, which culminated in the inauguration of this monument on the occasion, and the opening of this art exhibition that expresses an aspect of Moldovan culture. We look forward to strengthening cooperation between our two countries in various fields.”
For his part, Dr Sulaiti said, “Ties between countries and the openness of peoples to each other’s cultures increases with such events.”
He stressed that culture is the main pillar and the first key to advance peoples and bring about rapprochement between them, noting that the Katara has devoted all efforts and potentials to achieve rapprochement between peoples and build bridges of communication between them.
Dr Sulaiti noted that Katara is cooperating with the various embassies accredited to the country to achieve its mission to be a crossroads of cultures and an umbrella for creativity and innovators.
Ambassador Tvircun praisedthe people in charge of the Katara for all the support they provided in order to organise these events, stressing the depth of relations between Moldova and Qatar, wishing them further development and prosperity.
