It was an occasion to rejoice with pride and exultation as The Next Generation (TNG) school recently hosted its first graduation ceremony to celebrate the success and achievements of the graduating students of grades 11 and 12, the class of 2019.
Secretary General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science Dr Hamda Hassan Al-Sulaiti, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, congratulated the students and hailed the efforts of TNG as an educational institute. She shared Qatar’s Vision of 2030 and stressed the importance of education for personal development. She said she wanted to see these graduates part of Qatar’s workforce, working to help Qatar grow further.
Addressing the young leaders at the ceremony, TNG Principal Ailia Rizvi said, “Continue to read, study hard and may your education allow you to touch hearts and be the voice of those who are vulnerable, and give you the courage to question stale assumptions and empower you to create a better world.”
Several awards were announced to recognise the accomplishments of the graduates. The Valedictorian Awards for Commerce and Science stream were awarded to Mariam Riyaz Bakali and Minahil Maqsood, respectively. Mahnoor Imran received the Overall Top Achiever Award for achieving the highest number of A*’s in IGCSEs and making outstanding contributions to the school.
The Academic Excellence Awards were also given to students who scored A*’s in their IGSCE examinations. As an educational institute, TNG encourages all stakeholders, especially its students, to adopt, assimilate and reflect its organisational values in their behaviour. Therefore, along with the academic awards, the students also received values-based awards.
As part of her farewell speech, Head Girl for the academic year 2018-2019 Fatima Rizwan said, “From the first day, I had teachers who always encouraged me to explore my strengths. Our teachers not only taught us to score well in the subjects, but also score the highest in being a good human being.”
As the students contemplated their future, Head Boy Hassan Mehmood had some wise words to share: “Today, we all are wondering how our lives are going to turn out for us. It’s okay to wonder but it’s equally important to take action because our future is not something that is going to happen on its own. We have to create it. It seems hard but I know and believe we are all going to make it because we are The Next Generation!”
Defense Attaché at the Pakistan Embassy, Community Welfare Attaché Hafiz Junaid Amir Sial and Accounts Relationship Manager of British Council Nimrod Garry D’silva attended the event as the guests of honour.
Speaking to the students, Hafiz Junaid said: “You should be compassionate persons and you are assured of success.”
Nimrod Garry D’silva said these young students have the potential to change the world -- from finding a cure to incurable diseases to solving problems that are just now emerging.
Concluding the ceremony, CEO of TNG Shagufta Bakali exhorted the class of 2019 to remain modest, kind, and hardworking. She said, “You have so much to offer to the world. Go forth and take your place.”
Established in 2009 to bridge the gap of quality education in Qatar, TNG aims to provide quality education which develops confidence, encourages leadership, independent thinking and inspires students to become responsible global citizens.
