As part of the activities of the Cyber Security month entitled ‘Safe Cyber Space’, the National Cyber Security Agency on October 9 honoured nine entities among the 91 that participated in the training programme for the prevention of cybercrime.

Through this recognition, the National Cyber Security Agency aims to strengthen partnership and collaboration with experts and enhance capabilities within the national organisations to benefit from the training programmes provided by the agency to achieve the national strategic objectives and maintain and regulate national cyber security and promote the national vital interests and protect them from cybercrime.

During the opening speech, Eng. Khalid Al Hashmi; Director of Cyber Excellence and Enablement Affairs at the agency expressed the Agency’s appreciation for the efforts of the awarded entities and their contribution to supporting the agency’s vision. He stressed the Agency’s belief that protecting cyber space is a collaborative effort between the private and government sectors to exchange expertise in this field.

Ali Abdullah Al-Buainain, Assistant Undersecretary for Shared Services Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said: “On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, I would like to extend my sincere thanks and deep gratitude to the National Cyber Security Agency for its constructive efforts and training initiative to raise awareness and prevent cybercrime.”

He added that the ministry’s interest in training and education in the field of cyber security comes within the framework of keeping pace with technical developments in today’s world and in line with the country’s interest in human development as one of the main pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

For his part, Khalifa Al-Salahi Al-Yafei, President of Qatar Finance and Business Academy, explained that in light with the communication development and the digital transformation tools, there are cyber security challenges and threats that may have catastrophic effects on the economic, security and societal levels if they occur, which requires taking all the precautions to combat them as part of a comprehensive cyber security strategy that takes into account the acquisition of advanced technologies and applications, and the development of human competencies who are capable of responding to cyber-attacks.

During his speech, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mogarmad, CEO of Qatar Institute for Science and Computing, stressed on the importance of cooperation between the Institute and the National Cyber Security Agency, pointing out that the goal of the Cyber-crime Prevention Programme is to support national cyber security, raise the efficiency of workers in this field and achieve the human development pillar in the 2030 vision.

Hasan Khan, Cisco Country Manager added; “the National Cyber Governance and Assurance Affairs addresses the need for the Country to become self-sufficient in Cyber Security and to cater the immediate needs for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. All three areas of People, Process and Tools were addressed at National level by creating the most comprehensive Qatar Cyber Security Framework (CSF) based on Industry Standards and collaborative input of World Class experts and Cisco was honoured to provide its key input in formulation of this framework powered by Country Digitalisation Acceleration Programme”.

The training programme for the Prevention of Cyber Crime trained till date more than 75,000 government employees, of whom 30,000 have graduated so far. All of whom have obtained an accredited certificate from the National Cyber Security Agency. The programme continues to receive applications from different government entities for enrolment in the different training programmes.
