Khadija Muhammad Abdul Quddus, an undergraduate student at Qatar University (QU) and first place winner in QU’s National Science Promotion Programme (NSPP), shared her experience as a participant in the American Chemical Society Conference (ACS), Chicago, the US.
Khadija presented a poster at the conference in August 2022. Her research covered the topic of ‘Silver grafted Ti3C2-MXene nanocomposite as novel anode materials for lithium-ion batteries’.
MXene has proven to be a fascinating material in energy storage. Thus, the research project intended to synthesise a novel anode material for lithium-ion batteries using MXene and Silver. The synthesised material was reported to augment the battery performance.
During the conference, which was held under the theme ‘Sustainability in a Changing World,’ she met numerous chemistry professionals, with whom she was able to share ideas and knowledge with, and attended the graduate fairs and networking sessions.
Khadija expressed her gratefulness for the NSP programme, which was founded by QU’s Young Scientists Center in cooperation with the Vice-President of Graduate and Research Studies Office, to promote youth empowerment through scientific research programmes.
Khadija thanks all the professors and researchers who played a key role in her winning and qualifying her to participate in an international research conference. This was made possible through key individuals in the university, led by Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Mariam Al Ali Al Maadeed and Director of the Young Scientists Center Prof Noora Al Thani, as well as
Prof Abdul Shakoor from the Center for Advanced Materials, who supervised the project.
Prof Noora Al Thani said the center and the university continuously strive to encourage and motivate students to continue learning and research in all modern methods as continuous learning and various experiments, such as conducting research, participating in seminars and conferences, have a great role in developing and enhancing the skills that enable students to achieve their ambitions and advance their thinking to an advanced level.
