The seventh edition of the Qatar Business Law Forum Conference was held in Doha on Wednesday. It was organised by LexisNexis Middle East in cooperation with the network’s strategic partner, the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC), as well as the Qatar Lawyers Association, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Al Sulaiti Law Firm and several local and international law firms.
The Qatar Business Law Forum brings together the country’s foremost legal experts and professionals to discuss the latest legal developments and trends in Qatar and the region. Through its participation in the conference and its strategic partnership, the QICDRC aims to connect LexisNexis with Qatar’s local partners and strengthen its engagement with the professional legal community.
During his opening remarks at the conference, Faisal Rashid Al-Sahouti, CEO of Qatar International Court, stated: “Today’s conference is imperative to everyone as it not only sheds light on topical issues and events in Qatar’s legal ecosystem, but also ultimately paves the way for future discussions about developments in the legal field that will be relevant for our nation and this region.”
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed between LexisNexis Middle East and the Qatar Lawyers Association during the conference, heralded by those present as a positive step for the enhancement of legal knowledge and information in Qatar.
President of Qatar Lawyers Association, Mubarak Al-Sulaiti said: “We thank LexisNexis Middle East for organising this forum, which witnessed the signing of an important memorandum of understanding which shall have a positive impact on the field of legal research and legal publications, in addition to serving as a trusted reference for many jurists and lawyers. The Qatari Lawyers Association continues its commitment to strengthening cooperation with legal bodies and institutions, both locally and internationally, by all means, which will benefit Qatar’s lawyers in particular, and the Qatari legal community in general.”
Keynote speaker Hilal Al-Khulaifi, Director of Legal Affairs in the Ministry of Commerce and Trade, commented in a discussion session titled What’s in the Pipeline for Business Law in Qatar: “The Qatari legislator was keen to issue new laws and keep up with the developments taking place in the state of Qatar, which helps in preserving the rights of both the business owner and the beneficiary or the customer. Among the laws issued was Law No. 11 of 2021 regarding the protection of trademarks, copyrights, and related rights of the International Football Association (FIFA). The Law stipulates special procedures for registering FIFA trademarks, which preserve the copyright and related rights.”
This court’s cooperation in this forum comes as part of the Qatar International Court’s commitment in engaging with local and international legal professionals and experts in its continuous efforts to promote access to justice.
