The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held expanded and constructive discussions on the strong relations between the two countries, in the capital Astana on Wednesday.
HH the Amir expressed his happiness at the significant and continuous growth of the bilateral relations in various fields, especially economic, trade and investment.
In joint press statements with the President of Kazakhstan at the Ak Orda Presidential Palace, HH the Amir noted that the two sides completed the discussions held earlier on the sidelines of Qatar Economic Forum in Doha in June.
HH the Amir stressed the importance of the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two sides on Wednesday, most importantly the agreement on the encouragement and reciprocal protection of investments which will give strong impetus to the existing cooperation between the two countries and achieving more joint accomplishments.
HH the Amir noted the significant role of the Qatar-Kazakh Joint Committee in continuing to explore trade and investment opportunities between the two countries and strengthening the economic ties, noting that the Committee had held five sessions, the latest of which was held in 2020, and it is expected to hold its next session in the near future.
He added that a Qatari delegation of several investment agencies will visit Kazakhstan to discuss the appropriate investment opportunities in the Kazakh economy.
HH the Amir pointed to Kazakhstan’s hosting of the sixth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on Thursday in which he will participate at the invitation of the Kazakh president.
HH the Amir considered the summit an opportunity to meet many leaders of the region and discuss with them political, security and development issues of interest to the continent. He praised the efforts of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during his presidency of the current session of the summit, wishing him success.
He expressed his wish to participate in the Astana Economic Forum, which will be held in June 2023.
Highlighting Qatar’s keenness on strengthening the relations between the two countries and the two friendly peoples, HH the Amir explained that Qatar Airways operates direct flights for passengers and air freight between Qatar and Kazakhstan, expressing his happiness with the increase in the number of tourists from both countries.
He also referred to Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 next month and to the number of tickets booked from Kazakhstan. HH the Amir welcomed all fans from Kazakhstan to come to Qatar and enjoy the matches and the atmosphere of the tournament, inviting the president of Kazakhstan to attend the tournament.
HH the Amir concluded his statements by extending congratulations tothe president, the government and the friendly people of Kazakhstan on the occasion of the upcoming National Day of Kazakhstan. He also thanked President Tokayev on his invitation to visit Kazakhstan and the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him and his accompanying delegation during the visit which is his second to the country.
For his part, President Tokayev underlined that Qatar plays an important role in the region and the world, especially in politics and economy; praising Qatar’s diplomatic efforts regionally and internationally in achieving peace.
He looked forward to enhancing and developing the relations between the two countries in all fields, noting that the two countries will celebrate next year the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He also praised the close bilateral cooperation and the constructive political dialogue between the two countries.
The Kazakh president referred to a number of Qatari projects in Kazakhstan, thanking Qatar for its development initiatives and projects that contribute to strengthening the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and peoples.
