A photo exhibition is being held in the Qatar National Library (QNL) premises to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Qatar and France. The photographic exhibition, organised in collaboration with and support of the state-of-the-art QNL, was inaugurated recently. It will remain open until October 31.
Each and every of the more than 30 selective historical pictures on display charms the visitors and transports them back to the past. The pictures represent almost all the sectors witnessing strong and growing relations between Qatar and France including diplomatic, economic, education, cultural, defence, security and sports at all levels.
It’s been an on-going journey of mutually beneficial relationship for the last 50 years since the independence of State of Qatar, and getting stronger.
QNL acts as a steward of Qatar’s national heritage by collecting, preserving, and making available the country’s recorded history. The library provides equal access to all types of information and services and aims to enable the people of Qatar to positively influence society by creating an exceptional learning and discovery environment.
The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani officially inaugurated Qatar National Library on 16 April 2018. The library was granted the status of national library under Amiri Decree No.11 of 20 March 2018. (www.qnl.qa).
In his opening remarks on the inauguration of the exhibition, HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State, President of Qatar National Library and former ambassador of Qatar to France, said, “The close ties between Qatar and France provide a refined, exemplary model for international diplomatic relations based on mutual respect in various fields of politics, economics, education, sports, and culture.”
In his address, Ambassador of France to Qatar HE Jean-Baptiste Faivre thanked HE Dr. Hamad Al-Kawari for his generous hosting of the exhibition in the beautiful institution. “Dr. Hamad Abdulaziz Al-Kawari is a friend of France and has greatly contributed to the ties that bind us. We are grateful to him,” the French envoy said.
“We are very pleased and proud to showcase this exhibition of photographs, which shed a light on the deep and longstanding friendship between our two countries. France has been a friend of Qatar since its independence in 1971 and has played an important role in its development,” he further said, adding that “France is also proud of what we have achieved together over the past 50 years, and we look forward to the future with serenity, to promote together the values of peace, prosperity and sustainable development that we share”.
