Alumni of India’s Aligarh Muslim University living in Qatar celebrated Sir Syed Day 2022 recently.
The event was held under the banner of AMU Alumni of Qatar (AMUAQ) at Al Wadi Hotel Musheireb Downtown, Doha, in memory of the university’s founder.
Mansour Ajran Al Buainain, director, Doha Municipality, was the chief guest. HE Ghulam Hoosein Asmal, ambassador of South Africa; HE Naresh Bikram Dhakal, ambassador of Nepal; and HE Prof Mahmood Adil, Advisor to the Minister of Public Health, were the dignitaries who attended the event. The other distinguished guests included Salim Pathan, general manager of QFM and ZAD Holding; and Abdurahman E.P, MD, Care and Cure Group of Pharmacies.
More than 240 people, including children, attended the event. Nazia Ahmad welcomed the guests while Sarwar Mirza initiated the programme with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Dr. Syed Jaffery, the president of AMUAQ, presented the annual report of the association outlining its various activities and achievements during the past year.
In a report on Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Nuzhat Alam, an Alig, presented a video on the vision of the great reformer.
The spirit of FIFA World Cup was beautifully represented by the children in an electrifying performance.
The event also witnessed the felicitation of its alumni, Er. Naim Jainul, who was recognised for the training he conducted for engineering professionals and also for his efforts to recruit fresh engineers from the ZHCET.
Children were felicitated for their academic performances. Two of the children to be recognised were Hannah Qamar (97.4 marks in Grade 10) and Hafiz Rahman (100% marks in Grade 10).
Shahid Yar Khan and Qamar Alam, senior advisors of AMUAQ, presented mementos to the guests.
Quiz contests were conducted for children and adults and all participants received gifts.
Another highlight of the event was a raffle draw by Malabar Gold. The winner received a diamond ring.
