Doha Festival City (DFC), Qatar’s choice for shopping, dining and entertainment, and the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) launched a joint awareness campaign on breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

The campaign is being held under the umbrella of the mall’s #FestivalCares initiatives.

The breast cancer awareness activities come as part of the awareness campaign during the month of October, which is internationally recognised as Breast Cancer Awareness Month or The Pink Month. It is generally celebrated in the community through events and initiatives dedicated to spreading awareness of the disease and means toward its early detection and prevention.

Robert Hall, general manager of Doha Festival City Mall, said: "At Doha Festival City, we have been supportive of local breast cancer awareness initiatives. Together with our partners, we join hands in promoting awareness of the disease, highlighting the resources available for its prevention and treatment. Early detection can save lives and we want to encourage our community members at risk to seek screening. Through our #FestivalCares programme and with our local partners, we re-main committed to supporting awareness campaigns on issues that can affect the local communi-ty.”

The PHCC Breast Cancer Awareness booth was stationed in the mall’s ground floor, where PHCC staff were available to provide information to guests.

Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, director of the Screening Programmes in Primary Health Care Corporation, said: "As a reminder, one of the cancer screening programme’s goals is to raise awareness through launching campaign and arranging such activities. For that, we had the honour to have an awareness booth at the Doha Festival City through which we were able to answer all the related questions about breast cancer asked by visitors, distributed our educational materials and registered the eligible ladies to do the mammogram in one of our four screening suites. We would like to thank Doha Festival City for their participation in our national breast cancer awareness campaign.”

The breast cancer screening service is targeting all ladies between the age 45 to 69, not having any symptoms, didn’t do a mammogram in the past three years and have a valid QID and health card. Ladies who are among this category are advised to call the cancer screening call centre on 8001112 to book their routine mammogram check-up.

The cancer screening suites are available in four dedicated health centres: Al-Wakra, Muaither, Rawdat Al khail and Leabaib. All the suites are fully equipped with the highest technology and the best trained team.

As part of its robust CSR programme and its #FestivalCares initiatives, Doha Festival City is committed to empowering the community in Qatar through promoting awareness on environmental, health and humanitarian topics. The mall has participated in numerous campaigns throughout the year in cooperation with major healthcare institutions and organisations to support social and humanitarian causes that can benefit the community in Qatar and beyond.
