The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and healthcare sector institutions together marked ‘Qatar Infection Prevention and Control (QIPC) Week’, inspired by the International Infection Prevention Week from 16 to 22 October 2022.
The theme for this year’s Qatar IPC week was ‘The Future is Infection Prevention: Spread Prevention -Not Infection’.
The theme gains in importance from the fact that today infection prevention is more important than ever in the battle against global pandemics and to keep the world safe from healthcare-associated infections and outbreaks.
The Ministry also emphasised the role that individuals can play in the health and safety of the community. Commemoration of the day provided education and awareness on the subject to healthcare workers, patients and their families.
In this context, the Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with its partners in the health sector, held several activities, including a virtual awareness campaign to promote awareness of infection control and prevention in healthcare facilities in the State of Qatar. A range of activities such as competitions and educational lectures were also organised. Awareness messages were broadcast through social media sites to raise awareness about infection control and focus on the theme of this year’s celebration.
The IPC team of MoPH conducted lectures and training sessions for healthcare workers and site visits to emphasise the importance of infection prevention and the strategies to achieve it. It joined healthcare facilities across the country in the celebrations.
Activities at the facilities included indoor celebration at HMC, PHCC, semi government and private hospitals with awareness creation through entertainment, posters and games, TV and radio talk shows.
The celebration highlighted that infection prevention and control and breaking the chain of infection are at the forefront of every activity of the healthcare sector, and that infection prevention and control principles are not add-on practices but the way to deliver healthcare.
