Qatar Chamber recently participated in the 11th Arab-Hellenic Economic Forum held in Athens on Tuesday (October 25) and Wednesday.
The Chamber delegation was led by the First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari and included board members Rashid bin Seryea Al Kaabi and Dr Khalid bin Klefeekh Al-Hajri, as well as the general manager, Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi.
The forum touched on several sessions and meetings that focused on vistas of cooperation between the Arab world and Greece and means to enhance them.
On his part, Twar said the forum provided a great opportunity to review ways to bolster trading cooperation between both sides and investment opportunities in a host of sectors like food security, pharmaceuticals, real estate, tourism, infrastructure, electricity, and energy.
As for the Qatar-Greek relations, he said both countries’ ties are growing fast, especially in the commercial and investment aspects, noting that their trade volume amounted to QR897 million last year compared with QR409 billion in 2020, an increase of 120 percent.
Addressing the forum’s second session under the theme ‘‘Electricity and Alternative Sources of Energy for a Sustainable Future’, QC board member Dr Khalid bin Klefeekh Al-Hajri stressed that Qatar has established itself as a key player in the global market of energy and it is the second world’s largest exporter of LNG (liquefied natural gas).
Elaborating the country’s advancement in this regard, he said that Qatar pays great importance to the production of energy, whether traditional or renewable, noting it is investing heavily in expanding its LNG production, therefore it announced the expansion of the Northfield that will ramp up Qatar’s liquefaction capacity from 77 million tons per annum to 126 mtpa by 2027, marking a 64% increase.
As for the renewable energy, Al-Hajri pointed out that the state has paid great attention to renewable and clean energy for years and is working on diversifying energy sources and benefiting from other natural resources such as wind and solar energy in line with its National Vision 2030.
He referred to the opening of Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant in Al Kharsaah, which covers 10 square kilometers and includes more than 1,800,000 solar panels, indicating that it aims at meeting 10% of the country’s peak electricity demand.
