Organised in 2011 as part of Doha College's 30th anniversary celebrations, the DC 5km and 10km Run has gathered momentum with each subsequent edition and is now a highlight of Qatar's sporting scene.
The race has grown in popularity and performance level, and the times that the runners achieve each year are consistently excellent.
Supported by Aspire Zone, the Doha College Race has attracted large numbers of participants, starting from 300 back in 2011 to around 1,000 in more recent years. Some of them walk, some jog while some take an 'interval' approach. Some do it for health and fitness, some for a special cause and others do it to just enjoy the beautiful Aspire Park. This setting, ideally equipped for all kinds of physical activity around its outdoors track, boasts the iconic Torch Hotel and world class sports facilities that expand into a separate 5km and 10km race and brings runners from different walks of life.
"The purpose of the Doha College Run is to encourage health, fitness and fun in our community," said Doha College Principal Dr Steffen Sommer."Pursuing the same aims as other Aspire Zone Foundation initiatives like 'Step into Health' or 'Doha GOALS', our school engages the young generation into an active and energetic take on healthy living."
This year's run will bring both motivated new and seasoned runners to Aspire, on November 12, with races starting from 7am. Again we have an exclusive invitation to collect your registration kit for the Doha College Run during the IAU 50km Ultramarathon World Championships on the evening of 11 November.
