Birla Public School (BPS) organised its 19th Founder’s Day celebrations, titled ‘Champions of Change’, with great zest, exuberance and jubilation. After the two challenging years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the school presented a scintillating performance by the young champs.

The show was witnessed by the chief guest Sachin Dinkar Shankpal, First Secretary–Culture, Education and Labour, Embassy of India; Chairman Gope Shahani; Directors Dr Mohan Thomas and C V Rappai; Management Representatives Chindu Antony Rappai and Malvika Khimji; Life Members; Academic Director-Principal Harish Sandhuja; Head of Non-Academics Vinod Kumar K V; vice-principals, headmistresses, heads of various departments, parents and well-wishers.

Addressing the gathering, Sachin Dinkar Shankpal said, “Education is the foundation of life. The students should always be grateful for the excellent facilities provided to them. Parents are equally or rather more responsible and should be highly observant. Parents should find time to spend with their children. These children are the future citizens, who will take India to its 100th year of Independence.”

Head Boy Vaibhav Krishna and Head Girl Ishita Somayaji welcomed the gathering. Harish Sandhuja presented the annual report highlighting the academic and non-academic achievements of the students. Students who had accomplished extraordinary humane service, the toppers of Grade XII Board Examinations AY 2021-22, and the teaching and non-teaching staff rendering their 15 years of long-term service to BPS, were honoured and complimented. ‘Birlites’ Expression’, the biennial school magazine, was released by the chief guest.

Hussain Qassim Askar, First Warrant Officer of Juvenile Police Department under the Ministry of Interior, was briefly present at the function, who complimented the school on its 19th Founder’s Day celebrations.

Dr Mohan Thomas said, “We are at the crossroads. Education and children have changed. Children should be moulded to be responsible social beings. The task of education is a partnership between school, teachers and parents.”

Cultural programmes portraying the talent and creativity of the students captivated the audience. A dance performance ‘Tharuni’ was presented by the graceful dancers, which emphasised the theme of women empowerment. The audience cheered to Hayya Hayya, when the students of the Middle School rocked the stage, giving a glimpse of 32 countries participating in the FIFA World Cup’2022 which Qatar prestigiously hosts next month.

A mime on afforestation, ‘Aranyakarana’, alerting all on the drastic climatic change which is affecting the Earth was expressively presented by another group of Middle School students. The students of the Secondary section presented an ecstatic performance ‘Uhibbu Baladi – I Love My Country ‘merging the Indian and Qatari forms of music, elevating the positive values of love, loyalty and honesty towards one’s nation.

The school’s Theatre Club refreshed the memory of the world’s greatest dramatist William Shakespeare through the play ‘Macbeth’. The finale of the cultural programmes was ‘Auguri’, the parade by graduating batch of Class XII.

The vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice-Head Boy Rohan Doddamane and Vice-Head Girl Rushali Nair.
