Generation Amazing Foundation has announced a series of events to be held in Qatar to coincide with the FIFA World Cup 2022, in cooperation with Qatar Foundation (QF) and Qatar Tourism (QT).
At a press conference held on Sunday at its headquarters in Doha, with the participation of representatives of QF and QT, Nasser Al-Khori, executive director of the foundation, told Qatar Tribune that Generation Amazing has succeeded in positively influencing the lives of more than one million people since its launch in 2010, and has been moving forward towards achieving more beneficiaries by the end of 2022.
Al Khori said that the foundation has succeeded in building more than 30 football stadiums in developing countries in the Middle East and Asia over the past ten years. The foundation has community clubs in four countries, focused on helping organize social events, teaching basic skills and promoting positivity in society, he said.
“The participants of our programmes have acquired basic life skills, such as teamwork, successful leadership and effective communication, through activities that benefit from the power of football, as these skills help them deal with social problems that they may face in their daily lives,” he said.
“There is no doubt that Generation Amazing, with the support of its partners, is making important global contributions and is working hard to make the most of Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup for the first time in the region,” he added.
The clubs were first established in India and the Philippines in 2020, before opening new facilities in Qatar and Rwanda earlier in 2022.
Al Khori explained that the foundation works through long-term partnerships with FIFA, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, QF, the Education Above All Foundation, QT, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the North, Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation (CONCACAF).
Al Khori said that the foundation is in the process of launching a series of events during the World Cup at the Oxygen Park, aimed at developing the capabilities of young people and enriching their knowledge about the influential power of football, and the ways through which they can contribute positively to changing their communities for the better.
The QF delegate spoke about the activities offered under the Generation Amazing programme, that focus on teaching sports values and basic life skills. All programmes are committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, he said.
Gordon Roedger, vice president for growth and operations at SDImktg advertising, told Qatar Tribune that the efforts of Generation Amazing Foundation have focused, for more than ten years, on leveraging the power and popularity of football and sports in general, to positively impact the lives of individuals and communities, and achieve sustainable community development in Qatar and the world.
The foundation, launched by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) in 2010 as part of Qatar’s bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has helped support underprivileged individuals and refugees around the world, and empower new generations of youth leaders to advance their communities through the implementation of sustainable programmes.
