Amiri Guard Commander Lieutenant-General Hazza bin Khalil Al Shahwani on Tuesday inaugurated the Barzan stud (Abu Fas Camp) for purebred Arabian horses, which includes a number of facilities, equipment and services concerned with horse production and training in accordance with the duties of the Amiri Guard.

The ceremony was attended by the Amiri Guard Deputy Commander, assistants of the Commander of the Amiri Guard and a number of senior officers of the Amiri Guard, in addition to the directors of a group of horse stables in the country, Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) chairman, and a number of officials in government institutions.

In his speech, Commander of the protocol group Brigadier-General Hitmi Mohammed Al Hitmi stressed that the Barzan stud constitutes a historical legacy that must be preserved and comes as part of the qualitative leap the Amiri Guard is witnessing at all levels, in line with the visions and the future ambitions of the Amiri Guard Command.

For his part, Assistant Commander of the Amiri Guard for logistics and equipment and head of the Arabian horse production committee Brigadier-General Mohammed Fadl Al Kaabi gave a detailed explanation of the facilities, services and equipment of the stud, indicating that the stud, since its establishment, has been working on horse production, as it currently owns purebred Arab breeds.

He said that based on the directives of the Amiri Guard Command, the Barzan stud was established in 2013, where a joint committee was formed in cooperation with Al Shaqab and QREC in addition to coordinating with a number of international horse stables to obtain authentic breeds that enrich the Abu Fas camp.

He explained that the Barzan stud features an equine veterinary hospital that includes a cadre of veterinarians and advanced medical equipment, in addition to horse heating canopies, a number of stables and trucks for transporting horses.

Brigadier-General Kaabi noted that there is fruitful coordination with a group of horse studs in the country, in addition to the Racing and Equestrian Club and the Livestock Department in supporting the production of the Barzan stud.

He pointed out that the cavalry of the Amiri Guard participates in the protocol of receiving the state’s guests and other events such as the graduations of military colleges, international festivals and official horse championships.

The Amiri Guard Commander later honoured the directors of horse stables, the QREC chairman and the director of the livestock department at the Ministry of Municipality.
