Contrary to its earlier announcement, the Hamad Medical Corporation has decided not to charge the people who turn up at the Hamad General Hospital Emergency Department with non-emergency medical conditions.
However, the HMC has urged the public to use the emergency department only for medical emergencies.
The new decision comes in light of the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak in Qatar, which has infected 439 individuals in Qatar so far.
"Given the changes to health services taking place while we continue to tackle COVID-19, consideration had been given to introducing charging for all non-emergency attendances at Hamad General Hospital Emergency Department. However, after consideration, these charges will NOT now be introduced, although we continue to urge patients to use ED when they have an emergency (SIC)," an HMC statement said.
