The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) unveiled a new achievement in the area of security and safety at the stadiums of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which is set to be launched on November 20 and continues until December 18,2022. In a statement issued Wednesday, SC stated that Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, one of the eight stadiums dedicated to the tournament, accomplished a vital milestone in security and safety after completing 23 million working hours without recording any reported injuries that might have impeded the progress of the construction works and the operational processes during the period from May 2019, to October 2022.
The achievement milestone by SC came by virtue of the full adherence to health and safety standards set by SC in cooperation with the main project contractor, including Al Balagh Trading & Contracting Co. WLL, Larsen & Toubro and AECOM that undertook the project management.
Manager of the Safety and Health Department at SC Eng. Abdullah Al Bishri said that he is pleased to have this milestone accomplished, adding that he is proud for this amazing accomplishment at the security and safety levels, pointing out that the main contractor accomplished several key works during this period, as the work continued in numerous project aspects, with the participation of over 6,000 persons through which they accomplished a multitude of project aspects that included the installation and construction works along with other construction phases that had been accomplished within the determined time schedule without recording any reported injuries that would have impeded the work progress, adding that adherence to health and safety requirements are among their top priorities and they are committed to applying them through conducting high-level of risk management, in addition to organizing the training courses and activities in a persistent way, pointing out that the accomplished milestone is a clear evidence of the serious work and dedication from the part of the SC contractors, noting that There was also the additional challenge of COVID-19, which presented further health and safety challenges due to social distancing, sanitization and awareness campaigns, extending his thanks to all the workers engaged in this massive project for their outstanding dedication.
The Activities undertaken at the venue in recent months include operations and maintenance of the power system, plus the maintenance of the roof, façade and speakers and were all performed through rope access.
For his part, Facilities Management Director, Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium Ahmad Al Qatami thanked all for their the hard work and dedication of the massive team, pointing out that the project delivered a magnificent venue for this years FIFA World Cup, adding that he looks forward to hosting seven matches at the stadium and welcoming fans from across the globe.
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium will host its first World Cup match on 21 November when the USA face Wales. It will host six matches during the group stage, plus a round of 16 encounter. After the World Cup, the stadium will become the home of Al Rayyan Sports Club.
The main contractor at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium was a joint venture between Al Balagh Trading & Contracting and Larsen & Toubro, while project manager was AECOM.
