Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar began hearing court cases remotely using video conferencing technology on Thursday as part of the legal system’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.Cases related to pre-trial detention and release of detainees were heard on Thursday, with the detainees attending the court proceedings from police stations by way of video links, Brigadier General Saif Muhammad al Khayareen, Director of Judicial Execution Department at the Ministry of Interior, said. The remote trials will be held in stages, he added.In the near future, communication with the prosecution offices will be activated to conduct investigations and for initial stages of trials for the accused in penal and correctional institutions.
