Qatar marked the beginning of the cruise season with the arrival of The World, the first cruise ship of the season, at Doha Port on Tuesday.
Qatar Port Management Company (Mwani Qatar), operator of the state's commercial and tourist ports, celebrated the arrival of the luxury cruise ship with fanfare.
The 196.3m long luxury ship has 12 decks with a crew of 280. Home to 165 residences, The World provides all entertainment facilities, including apartments and swimming pools, to the patrons and is visiting Qatar for the first time.
In a statement on the sidelines of the ceremony, Mwani Qatar confirmed that the concerted efforts and intensive coordination between the company and its strategic partners ” Qatar Tourism Authority, Ministry of Interior and General Authority of Customs ” have contributed to the successful docking of the ship and the ease of the entry of cruise passengers safely and conveniently.
The World, the largest private residential ship of its kind, is one of 32 cruise ships to arrive in Qatar during the GCC cruise season ” from October 2016 to end of April 2017.
Over 50,000 passengers are expected to arrive aboard these ships.
Since its launch in 2002, the floating city has visited more than 900 ports in over 140 countries while sailing on a continuous worldwide itinerary at a maximum speed of 18.5 knots. (tnn)
