The Doha Metro hit a new record on Friday as the ongoing Darb Lusail Festival brought people out in hordes during the weekend.

Around 220,000 passengers rode Doha Metro in a span of 10 hours on Friday, Qatar Rail announced on Saturday.

“This marks the highest average ridership per hour in our history, whilst maintaining the highest safety and performance levels,” it added.

Darb Lusail, a three-day family-friendly festival featuring nightly drone shows, began on Thursday, marking the start of the grand fan festivities ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

On Friday, the festival featured a "Bollywood Music Festival" with performances by Indian singer Sunidhi Chauhan and Pakistani vocalist Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. It was attended by some 50,000 people, the most of whom travelled to the venue at the Lusail Stadium via the Doha Metro.
