Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Qatar HE Faisal Ali Ibrahim has heaped praise on Qatar for the massive arrangements made to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
In exclusive remarks to the Qatar Tribune, the Ethiopian envoy underscored that Ethiopia is ready to provide any support to Qatar in order to make this special edition of the World Cup a grand success, encouraging all Ethiopian residents to maintain their country’s good reputation and encourage the national teams with a high sporting spirit.
The ambassador said Qatar has done everything necessary to make the most popular sporting event in the world a success.
“What draws attention and is taken into account is the huge infrastructure development implemented by Qatar to host the tournament for the first time in the Arab region and the Middle East, including international stadiums, hotels, apartments, road networks, as well as the hospitality industry. That, in turn, confirmed its readiness to receive more than 2 million guests who are expected to visit Doha during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” the ambassador said.
He pointed out that all these excellent facilities will form a lasting legacy for Qatar.
He said the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy is providing cultural and sporting legacy to the World Cup with a host of activities and events on the sidelines of the Qatar 2022 football World Cup.
The ambassador lauded the recent amendments made by Qatar in the fields of human and labour rights, stressing that such courage in taking these steps comes only from a country that is keen on human rights.
He praised the generosity of the Qatari people, their good reception of their guests and their adherence to Qatari traditions and culture.
“I have found Qataris to be a warm and loving people who believe in respect, trust and friendship.”
The ambassador called on all Ethiopian fans to maintain their country’s good reputation by respecting the laws, culture and traditions of Qatar during the World Cup.
On the participation of African countries in Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, the ambassador said African national teams have gone through rigorous training and are ready to work to create a lasting memory in this tournament.
The ambassador reiterated that Ethiopia is constantly seeking to strengthen its relations with Qatar in all fields, including sports, and joint cooperation between the two countries infootball after the championship.
“The World Cup provides many opportunities in this field, in addition to creating the Ethiopian-Qatari football legacy -- in terms of building training facilities, stadiums, providing training equipment, as well as capacity-building,” he added.
The ambassador underlined the development of friendship between Ethiopia and Qatar economically, politically and in sport affairs.
“The Ethiopian-Qatari relations are distinguished thanks to the generous care and attention of the leaders of the two sisterly countries, and continue the positive path that serves the interests of them in all fields,” he added.
The ambassador praised the keenness of the leaders of the two countries to strengthen the historical and sisterly relations that unite Qatar and Ethiopia.
