The African Group of Ambassadors has appreciated the government of Qatar for its visionary leadership, highly elaborate and timely interventions in protecting lives and livelihoods of all the people in Qatar in the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Dr Mamadou Mamoudou Sall, the ambassadors said, “The African Group of Ambassadors wishes to, first and foremost, express its utmost gratitude to the Amir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani for his wise and visionary leadership, both locally and internationally in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic that has brought dignity and honour to Qatar as a spot for the fight against the pandemic.”
According to the ambassadors particularly commendable is Qatar Airways’ inspiring policy of willingly providing repatriation flights to more than 1million passengers to their countries of origin; the transportation of more than 100,000 metric tons of medical aid and humanitarian relief to affected countries around the world as and when feasible throughout this pandemic period; generous offer of 100,000 round-trip air tickets; and gratis to frontline healthcare professionals worldwide.
“On the domestic front, the timely adoption and gradual rolling out of elaborate precautionary and preventive measures, mechanisms, guidelines and protocols towards containing and curbing the potential spread of the coronavirus when and where ever it occurs within Qatar, the government is worthy is worthy of applause and emulation,” said the statement.
The ambassadors also applauded Qatar for the highest standards of healthcare including hospitals and testing facilities making it one of the few countries to register the least number of fatalities compared to the positive cases.  “Individually and collectively, the African Group of Ambassadors in Doha wishes to acknowledge with profound appreciation, all the different forms of assistance extended to the African governments in the forms of medical aid or other logistics in the continents fights against the covid-19 pandemic. These resources undoubtedly enhanced the capacity of each beneficiary to better protect citizenry and inhabitants of those nations.”
The group further acknowledged the direct and indirect forms of assistance to their nationals living in Qatar by the government including businesses, Qatar Charity and other humanitarian agents and agencies that have provided support to their communities during COVID-19. “The African Group of Ambassadors wishes to indicate its readiness to further collaborate with the government of Qatar in all spheres of endeavour, as may be feasible, towards working in unison to effectively tackle and find lasting solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The ambassador further said, “The African Group of Ambassadors wishes to avail to avail itself of this opportunity to assure the government of continuing to provide guidance to the African communities on abiding by all the public health guidelines and protocols prudently laid out by the competent Qatari authorities geared towards finding effective solutions to the coronavirus, here in Qatar and beyond.”
