The Qatari agricultural produce yards at Al Mazrouah, Al Khor-Al Zakhira and Al Wakra opened for the fifth season on Thursday, with the participation of 80 Qatari farms.
On the first day, 26 varieties of vegetables produced in Qatari farms were on display, attracting a large turnout of visitors.
Abdul Rahman al Sulaiti, the General Supervisor of Yards, said vegetables were sold at affordable prices. For instance, cucumber was sold at QR10 for 8 kgs.
A central fodder store at Al Mazrouah yard was opened this season to serve breeders of animals and birds.
Sulaiti said the prices of vegetables and fruits will be lower than those prevailing at the Central Market.
He said the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) controls the prices of products on offer at the yards to ensure that farmers stick to the advertised prices.
Sulaiti Ghadeer Company is participating at the Al Wakra yard.
Mahaseel Company and Mashatel and Social Development Center are also taking part in the events this season, he added.
Eggs, meat and livestock are being sold at Al Mazrouah yard, where the automated abattoir is open from 7 am to 5 pm.
Two new yards in Muaither and Ruwais will open during this season.
Vegetables, fish and birds sections at all the three markets will operate from Thursday to Saturday every week from 7am to 5pm, with livestock vendors operating at the same times throughout the week.
