Tribune New NetworkDohaFor the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19, recoveries outstripped infections in Qatar as the Ministry of Public Health updated its daily coronavirus figures on Thursday.The day also saw three more patients succumbing to coronavirus, bringing the death toll so far to 33.The deceased were aged 81, 50 and 25. They had been suffering from chronic diseases, the ministry said and extended its condolences to their families.The last 24 hours saw 1,967 more people testing positive and 2,116 patients recovering from the disease. With this, the total number of identified infections since the outbreak in Qatar rose to 50914. Of them, 15,399 have recovered and 35,482 are currently under treatment.Over the last 24 hours, 23 people were admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) due to the virus, bringing the total number of cases in ICUs to 214.The new confirmed cases of infection have been introduced to complete isolation in the various medical facilities in the country, where they receive the necessary healthcare according to the health status of each case. The Ministry revealed that the number of positive cases between citizens and residents witnessed a significant rise, with the number of infections relating to family gatherings, visits and sharing meals together with relatives and extended families.The Ministry of Health revealed that infections doubled due to family gatherings and visits between friends and extended families, and people ignoring the preventive measures recommended by the concerned authorities; the most important of which is staying at home and maintaining social distance.
