A stunning sculpture of a family of sea cows in Al Ruwais Beach is the latest addition to a collection of artworks that are turning Qatar into an open museum ahead of the World Cup.
"A magnificent sculpture [is] celebrating Qatar as the second largest home to sea cows in the world. Iraqi artist Ahmed Al-Bahrani creates a stunning sculpture of a family of sea cows living on Al Ruwais Beach, where the marine animal is found in dense groups in northwest Qatar," HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, the Chairperson of Qatar Museums Authority, has said on her Facebook page.
"A beautiful addition to our public art collection that celebrates our environment and decorates our country, Qatar."
This is the second dugong sculpture to be unveiled in Qatar. The first was on the Doha Corniche, created by well-known American artist Jeff Koons.
The public artworks — a combination of sculptures, paintings and art installations of varying sizes and shapes — are designed to evoke a multitude of emotions; surprise and delight are guaranteed as the artworks are located in some of the most unexpected public spaces. Visitors can also expect them in stadiums, airports, streets, shopping malls, college corridors and basically anywhere that draws a crowd.
