Qatar on Wednesday unveiled a 22-riyal banknote, adding a new and rare denomination to the already-existing one, five, 10, 50, 100, and 500 riyal notes to commemorate the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Along with the 22-riyal note, coins bearing the FIFA and the World Cup logos have also been launched.

Qatar Central Bank Governor Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani launched the note and coins along with FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The 22-riyal banknote features the Lusail Stadium on one side and Al Bayt Stadium on the other, along with the Qatar 2022 emblem and the World Cup trophy.

According to the QCB, the commemorative note and coins have legal force in terms of nominal value and specifications and will be offered through banks and exchange houses.

QCB said it has taken a set of measures to facilitate financial transactions involving the new currencies.

"The commemorative banknotes have a beautiful design and quality materials," the central bank said, adding that polymer was used for the first time on the note.

The new note and coins have been launched in association with FIFA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

"The new currency reflects the history of football in the country and is offered to those wishing to acquire it, including visitors to the country," the Qatar News Agency said.
