Prime Minister and Minister of Interior His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani inaugurated the expansion project of the Hamad International Airport on Thursday, according to the Qatar News Agency.
The project increases the Hamad International Airport's annual passenger capacity from 40 million to 58 million.
The expansion will help the airport cater to the influx of visitors to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and will ‘future-proof’ the facility for the continuing expansion of Qatar Airways.
The final phase of expansion will start early next year and is expected to be complete in two and a half years. With the final phase of expansion, the capacity of HIA will increase to over 75million passengers annually.
