The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Saturday witnessed the inauguration ceremony of The Chedi Katara Hotel and Resort, in the presence of Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, general manager of Katara, Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin Ghanem Al Thani, chairman of the Board of Directors of A Triple, and representatives of the tourism sector and the media.
Dr Sulaiti expressed his happiness that the launch of The Chedi Katara Hotel and Resort embodies the title of partnership and cooperation between Katara and A Triple Company according to the Build system – Operate – Transfer (B.O.T) system, which is considered one of the modern systems adopted by Qatar in involving the private sector in such projects, due to the characteristics of this type of system in saving time and cost.
He stressed that Katara has succeeded, through its cooperation with the private sector, in encouraging and developing investment in the field of tourism through the establishment of luxurious, modern and distinguished tourism projects, which enhance the prestigious position of Katara as a global destination that combines culture, tourism and entertainment.
He described The Chedi Katara Hotel and Resort as one of the most prominent achievements to be added to Katara’s record of success, whose opening coincided with the ongoing preparations to receive the most important football event in the world and to provide a diverse and multi-choice entertainment atmosphere for visitors and guests of Qatar during the World Cup Qatar 2022.
He pointed out that Katara, which has become the incubator for major international tournaments, events and sporting events of all kinds, seeks through its establishment of these projects to achieve tourism sustainability with the need to provide the necessary support to achieve this sustainability beyond the World Cup Qatar 2022.
The Katara general manager thanked A Triple, headed by Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin Ghanem Al Thani, praising the constructive partnership that exists between both parties, which is the first partnership between the public sector and the private sector in hospitality and hotel projects.
The ceremony also included speeches by Khalil Assaf, chief operating officer of Triple A; Morton Johnston, general manager - The Chedi Katara Hotel and Resort; and Tommy Lai, CEO of GHM Luxury Hotels, expressing the importance this hotel and the important addition it will provide to the level of hotel tourism in Qatar.
The Chedi Katara Hotel and Resort features 59 rooms and suites, in addition to 32 villas and chalets.
